Bronchos Finish 13th At MIAA Championships

Central Oklahoma Freshman Gabija Pukstas Leads Group

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Central Oklahoma finished 13th at the MIAA Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at Four Oaks Golf Course.
 
Pittsburg State, which hosted the event, won the team championship. Rogers State, Nebraska Kearney, Northwest Missouri and Missouri Southern rounded out the top five. Fort Hays State's Emily McCullough (20:57.80) won the individual championship.
 
Gabija Pukstas was UCO's high finisher. The freshman ran the 6k track in 23:51.73. Pukstas nearly hit top 20 UCO marks in two 5k events this season and was just outside the top 20 in the 6k on Saturday.
 
Genevieve Young finished second on the team, crossing the finish line in 26:14.20, and Kylee Smith was right behind her at 26:37.68. The two seniors finished 93rd and 98th respectively.
 
A trio of freshmen followed. Maya Winterburn (26:53), Tori McIntosh (29:55), and Gianna Weatherspoon (30:44) also ran for the Bronchos.
 
Central Oklahoma will now prep for the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships, scheduled for Nov. 8 in Joplin, Missouri.
