Bronchos Wrap Up Cross Country Season

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma wrapped up cross country season on Saturday, finishing 33rd at the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships at Missouri Southern's Tom Rutledge Course.

"While the results among the region aren't favorable, almost everyone on the team ran the fastest race of the season," UCO head women's cross country coach Gus Schamader said. "We've ran three 6k races and the girls performed the best today."

Gabija Pukstas finished first among the Bronchos in 23:38, a season-best for the freshman from Stillwater, Oklahoma. Senior Genevieve Young finished in 24:54, also a season best by almost two minutes.

Freshman Maya Winterburn completed the 6k course in 25:29, recording a season best. Senior Kylee Smith ran in 27:13. Gianna Weatherspoon was next across the finish line, finishing in 27:18, recording a season best as well. Tori McIntosh made it five season bests with a 29:03.

Central Oklahoma's cross country team will now transition into Indoor Track & Field, which begins in December officially with one even, and in earnest January.
