UCO Ready For ITA Cup This Weekend In Georgia

Pete Komada & Ayaka Koga Competing For National Title

ROME, Ga. – Central Oklahoma tennis players Pete Komada and Ayaka Koga begin their quest for the ITA Cup Thursday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center.

The Central Region doubles champions play at 4 p.m. (Eastern) against Barry's Dana Heiman and Anastasia-Aleksandra Nikolova. Komada will also compete in singles at 11:30 a.m. against Heiman. Barry's duo was ousted in the regional semifinals and Heiman the same round earlier this month in the ITA South Region championships in Pensacola, Florida.

Both singles and doubles tournaments begin Thursday in the Round of 16. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday, semifinals Saturday, and the championship matches are scheduled for Sunday.

Komada and Koga, a senior and junior respectively, from Japan, have put together standout performances to start this season for UCO tennis. The duo went 1-1 at the UT Tyler Invite at the beginning of September before going 5-0 to win the ITA Central Region title at the end of the month. They are the fifth ITA Central Region doubles champions from UCO in the last seven years.

Komada earned an at-large bid to the ITA Cup after a runner-up performance at regionals. She went 2-1 in Tyler earlier last month before going 5-0 to reach the final, where she came up short.
