Tennis Squad Earns Several Academic Awards

Bronchos Place Six Student-Athletes On Prestigious Honor Roll

TEMPE, Ariz. – Central Oklahoma was well represented on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) season-ending Academic Awards announced this week.

The Bronchos had six student-athletes earn ITA Scholar Athlete honors, with the program nabbing an ITA All-Academic Team award as well. Student-athletes needed to carry at least a 3.5 grade point average. Teams with a combined 3.2 GPA earned All-Academic Team awards.

Blythe Buntrock, Manon Hallemans, Pete Komada, Anika Ouwejan, Karyna Yurchenko, and Nefeli Zafeiri were each named ITA Scholar Athletes for their work in the classroom.

"We are proud of them for their work in the classroom," UCO head tennis coach Joe Vann said. "They put in so many hours of practice, training, traveling, playing matches, and then they are still diligent in the classroom. That's something to be proud of and we are happy they are recognized for that."
