Bronchos Slip One Spot, Mika Ramos Still In Top 10

Central Oklahoma Is Eighth After Two Rounds Of Play

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Mika Ramos remained in contention individually after the second trip around Hillcrest Country Club at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Central Region Championships Tuesday, with Central Oklahoma slipping back one spot to eighth in the team standings.

The tournament was delayed four hours while staff worked to cleanup the course following Monday night's severe storms. Rather than rolling tee times beginning at 10 a.m., everyone started with a 2 p.m. shotgun start.

The Bronchos shot a 316 team score at Hillcrest Country Club's 5,921-yard Par 72 course. That is one stroke more than Monday's first round, putting UCO at 631 after 36 holes.

Southwestern Oklahoma State continues to lead the field after shooting a 12-over-par 300 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are at 598 through 36 holes. Henderson State is second (299-303  602), Rogers State is third (305-306 – 611), and Central Missouri is fourth (316-303 – 619). Augustana rounds out the top five at 624 (306-318).

Ramos started on the 12th hole, sinking the first of her nine par putts on the day. She was 2-over-par heading back to the front nine thanks to a birdie on the Par 5 18th hole. Ramos had another birdie on the Par 5 seventh and finished the front nine 3-over-par. She finished her day three consecutive pars to record a 5-over 77. The senior from Tulsa is tied for eighth individually and is one of three players at 7-over 151 (72-77).

The top three teams advance to nationals in Orlando in two weeks. The top two individuals not on those teams will also qualify.

A group of Bronchos are 31st to 36th individually. Estela Castillo shaved three strokes off her first round score, as did Jirasuda Khunarak. Scarlet Sturch, like Ramos, shot three shots higher on Tuesday.

Castillo posted a 6-over-par 78 Tuesday. The freshman from Spain started on No. 15 with a par, then sank birdies on the Par 5 18th and the Par 4 13th. Castillo is tied for 31st individually with a 36-hole 159 (81-78). Sturch started the day with a birdie on No. 13, and had another on No. 18. She played the back nine 2-over-par and had eight bogeys and one par on the front nine to finish 8-over, 10-over par for the day. Sturch is tied for 36th with a 36-hole 161 (79-82). Khunarak posted a 7-over-par 79 on Tuesday, starting on No. 16 with a par. She sank 10 par putts on the day and had a birdie on the Par 5 10th. Khunarak is also tied for 36th with a 36-hole 161 (82-79).

Emma Shelley, who posted an 81 on Monday, shot an 85 on Tuesday and is in 47th individually at 166.
