Mika Ramos In Top 10 At Regionals

Central Oklahoma Is Seventh After First Round Of Play

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Mika Ramos fired a 2-over-par 74 and is in eighth place at the NCAA Central Region Championships Monday, leading Central Oklahoma to a seventh place standing after the first round.

The Bronchos shot a 315 team score to land in seventh place after one trip around Hillcrest Country Club's 5,921-yard Par 72 course.

Southwestern Oklahoma State leads the field after shooting a 10-over 298. Henderson State is second (299), Rogers State is third (305), and Augustana is fourth (306). Northeastern State and Harding are tied for fifth in front of UCO with a 312 each.

Ramos was solid all day long Monday in Bartlesville. Starting on the back nine, she opened the day with three straight par putts before the Tulsa native sank a birdie on the Par 4 13th. Ramos was even-par making the turn, then played the front nine 2-over-par with two bogeys and seven pars.

Freshman Scarlet Sturch was the only other Broncho in the 70s Monday after posting a 7-over-par 79. The Durant, Oklahoma native sank five par putts on the back nine and birdied the Par 3 16th. Sturch played the front nine 4-over with five more par putts made.

Emma Shelley and Estela Castillo are both tied for 36th individually after shooting 9-over-par 81s on Monday. The fifth year senior Shelley, who is from Bartlesville, had four pars and five bogeys on the back nine, then played the front nine 4-over with one birdie on the Par 3 fourth hole. Castillo, a freshman from Spain, opened the day with back-to-back doubles but recovered and finished the back nine 5-over par. She played the front nine 4-over just like Shelley to finish with an 81.

Jirasuda Khunarak was also in the lineup for the Bronchos and the senior from Thailand posted a 10-over-par 82, playing the back nine 3-over before a 7-over on the front nine.

Tuesday's Second Round is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. The Bronchos will begin the day on the back nine again and are teeing off beginning at 10:10 a.m.
