SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Central Oklahoma finished third at the 2024 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships Saturday on Lake Natoma.
UCO now awaits the NCAA selection committee's decision for the Division II Rowing Championships May 31-June 1 in Bethel, Ohio. Six teams will advance to the championships, with top seeds from each of the three regions (East, South, and UCO's West) joined by three more at-large selections.
Saturday in Sacramento, UCO raced three times, with an exhibition 4+ getting the day started. The Bronchos finished second in that race.
Then the Varsity 4+ championship race got underway and Central Oklahoma struggled, finishing fourth in the four-team race with a time of 8:18.73. Seattle Pacific won the race, with Cal Poly Humboldt in second and Western Washington in third.
In the Varsity 8+ title race, the Bronchos fared better. UCO took second with a time of 7:10.48. Western Washington won this race, with Cal Poly Humbodlt in third and Seattle Pacific in fourth.
Points were awarded based on finish in each race. Central collected six points from the fours and 15 points from the eights.
Western Washington won the team title with 26 points (eight in the fours, 18 in the eights). Cal Poly Humboldt finished second with 22 points (10/12), and UCO (6/15) and SPU (12/9) tied for third. Tiebreakers were decided based on finish in the Varsity 8+ race.
