Dahsauni Lyday Breaks Own School Record In Texas

Central Oklahoma Wraps Up Texas Track Meets With Strong Showing At Mean Green Invitational

DENTON, Texas – Central Oklahoma had 13 Top 10 finishes at Saturday's Mean Green Invitational that included seven Top 5 finishes and also a new school record.
 
Dahsauni Lyday, who set the UCO Outdoor record in the shot put last season, broke that mark on Saturday. The senior from Wagnoner, Oklahoma threw 14.22 meters to put herself atop the school's all-time list. That mark also ranks No. 18 in the country and sixth in the MIAA this season and is a natioanl qualifying standard. Lyday also added a 10th-place finish in the hammer throw (44.93m) Saturday. Abigail Kelly competed alongside Lyday in the shot put and finished 13th (11.62m).
 
Fellow field athletes Kelsey Drapeau and Talyn Been both picked up runner-up finishes this weekend. Drapeau's came in the long jump, where she hit a new personal best 5.95 meters. That mark is also a national qualifying standard. Been's runner-up finish came in the pole vault with a 3.05-meter performance.
 
Treasure Vallerie's standout freshman season continued with a pair of third-place finishes this weekend, and both were like Lyday and Drapeau, national qualifying standards. The San Antonio sprinter took third in the 400 with a time of 55.89 seconds and third in the 200 with a time of 25.73 seconds.
 
Deriayah Lee finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.66. She also finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.74-second time in the prelims. Later Saturday, she finished in the same spot in the finals, narrowly edging her previous time with a 14.60-second performance.
 
Genevieve Young also added a top-five performance in the 800 meters. The junior raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:22.65 Saturday afternoon.
 
Sai Brookins-Fleming joined Vallerie with two top-10 races. Also a freshman sprinter, Brookins-Fleming finished seventh in the 400 (58.66s) and eighth in the 200 (24.59). Kerrigan Huynh also ran in both events and finished 13th in the 400 (59.52), and 22nd in the 200 (25.72).
 
Jakayla Swanson, Mikayla Stephenson, and Karly Clemons all competed in the 100- and 200-meter races this weekend. Swanson took 14th in the 100 (12.12) and 23rd in the 200 (25.73). Stephenson finished 33rd in the 100 (12.89) and 28th in the 200 (26.21). And Clemons finished 42nd in the 100 (13.26) and 59th in the 200 (29.17).
 
Kylee Smith and Noel Buckhaults both ran in the 1,500 and 5,000-meter contests this weekend. Smith added a 10th-place finish in the 5,000 (22:27.78) and a 19th-place finish in the 1,500 (6:00.54). Buckhaults finished 14th in the 5,000 (23:14.18), and 20th in the 1,500 (6:05.28).
 
Central Oklahoma ended its month-long tour of Texas for this Outdoor season with Saturday's meet at North Texas. The Bronchos will wrap up the regular season with two in Oklahoma over the next two weeks. UCO visits the John Jacobs Invitational at OU next weekend and the Ford Mastin Twilight at OBU April 20 in Shawnee. The 2024 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for May 3-5 in Maryville, Mo.
