No. 8 Bronchos Sweep Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Shayleigh Odom drove in four runs in the first game and Rylee Lemos slammed a two-run home run in the nightcap to lead No. 8-ranked Central Oklahoma to a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos posted an 8-0 run-rule rout in the opener as Odom went 2-for-4 to pace a seven-hit attack before rallying for a 6-1 win in the second game despite managing just five hits.

UCO improved to 33-7 on the season and 13-1 in Mid-America Athletics Association play with the sweep.

"We didn't swing the bats as well today as we have been, but found a way to get the job done," head coach Cody White said. "Winning on the road is never easy in this conference, so we'll take what we did and move on."

The Bronchos erupted for four runs in their first at bat of opener to take quick control.

Lemos was hit by pitch to lead off and promptly stole second before racing home on Terin Ritz's double to right-center field. Jacee Minter followed with an infield single and McKenna Johnson walked, with Ritz scoring on an error.

Odom drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly and Tatum Long's RBI double to center field ended the scoring.

UCO upped its lead to 6-0 in the third on Odom's two-out, two-run home run to left field. It was the third homer of the season for the senior centerfielder.

The Bronchos added two more runs in the fifth. Emily Deramus led off with a single up the middle and pinch-runner Brooklyn Ryan stole second before Minter walked.

Johnson ripped a triple to left-center that scored Ryan, though Minter was thrown out at the plate. Odom followed with a single up the middle for her fourth RBI of the contest.

Ritz put the Blue Tigers down in order in the bottom of the fifth to complete the run-rule victory. Ritz improved to 16-3 with the win, giving up one hit and striking out three in three innings of relief work after Shelby Beard started and allowed two hits in the first two innings.

Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the second game and it stayed that way until the fourth when the Bronchos scored three unearned runs. Rylee Anglen started a two-out rally with a triple to right-center, then Lemos was hit by pitch and Deramus walked before all three scored on Ritz's fly ball to center field.

UCO made it 5-1 in the sixth when Anglen drew a one-out and Lemos followed with her fifth homer, this one a drive to center field. Kya Watson completed the scoring in the seventh, following Odom's two-out double with an RBI single to left-center.

Jordyn Pipkin started and earned the pitching win, giving up five hits and one run with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Beard earned the save, allowing just one hit in the final 2.2 innings.

UCO finishes out the regular season home schedule next weekend, hosting No. 3-ranked Rogers State Friday before taking on Northeastern State Saturday on Senior Day.
