Lyday Breaks Shot Put Record As Bronchos Win Thrice At OBU

Dahsauni Lyday Set A New School Record In The Shot Put For The Third Time In Her Career

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Treasure Vallerie, Mattison Thetford, and Dahsauni Lyday all picked up wins Thursday at Oklahoma Baptist's Ford Mastin Twilight, with Lyday setting the school shot put record for the third time in her illustrious career.
 
The senior thrower from Wagoner, Oklahoma, Lyday hit 14.78 meters to claim top honors Thursday. A year ago, she broke the school record with a 14.19-meter heave. A month ago, she did it again, hitting 14.22 meters.
 
Lyday also competed in the hammer throw and finished third with a new personal record, 47.76 meters.
 
Thetford, a sophomore from Moore, won the pole vault event with a 3.40-meter mark. Talyn Been also competed and finished second at 3.10 meters.
 
Vallerie, the freshman phenom from San Antonio, raced to a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 24.51 seconds. She also finished second in the 400 (58.30 seconds) and was part of UCO's 4x400 relay team that took third with a time of 4:00.82.
 
UCO had several top finishes in its final track meet of the regular season. Along with Been and Vallerie, Deriayah Lee also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.28. She raced twice on Thursday and finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.86 seconds.
 
Kerrigan Huynh joined Lyday and Lee with a third-place finish. She was just behind Vallerie in the 400 with a 1:00.50 time. Huynh also finished seventh in the 200m (25.84).  Kelsey Drapeau joined that group with a third-place finish in the long jump. The senior from Elgin, Oklahoma jumped 5.64 meters.
 
In the 100-meter dash Thursday, Mikayla Stephenson finished seventh (12.60 seconds) and Karly Clemons finished 11th (12.89). Both also ran the 200 and Stephenson finished 11th (26.40) and Clemons 14th (27.10). Reta Ojene also competed in the 200 and finished 12th (26.58), and the 400, where she finished sixth (1:02.40).
 
Genevieve Young raced to a fourth-place finish in the 800 Thursday, crossing the finish line in 2:21.17. Kylee Smith and Noel Buckhaults took on the 1,500 Thursday and Smith, a sophomore from Byng, Oklahoma, ran a personal record 5:40.96 for an 11th place finish. Buckhaults was right behind her in 12th with a time of 5:45.64.
 
Lauren Wilson and Abigail Kelly joined Lyday in throws Thursday. Wilson finished fourth in the discus (41.46m) and 14th in the hammer throw (34.09m). Kelly finished 13th in the discus (34.06m) and seventh in the shot put (11.80m).
 
Central Oklahoma wrapped up the regular season with Thursday's meet. The 2024 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are up next, May 3-5 in Maryville, Missouri.
