Central Oklahoma Tees Off Sunday In First Of Three Rounds

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Central Oklahoma tees off Sunday morning in the Emerald Coast Collegiate at Baytowne Golf Club for the first of three rounds of golf.

UCO is one of 17 teams competing in the three-day, 54-hole tournament at Baytowne's 5,881-yard Par-71 course. Emma Shelley, Estela Castillo, Jirasuda Khunarak, Scarlet Sturch, and Mika Ramos will all compete for the Bronchos this week.

Ramos is first off the No. 10 tee box at 8:45 a.m. Sunday. Sturch follows at 8:54, Khunarak is third at 9:03, Castillo is fourth at 9:12, and Shelley is the final Broncho teeing off at 9:21 a.m.

Central Oklahoma is coming off a third-place finish in Edmond last week. Shelley led the team with a fifth-place individual finish and earned MIAA Golfer of the Week honors following the tournament.

Shelley posted a 36-hole 148 (77-71). The fifth-year senior from Bartlesville is averaging a 77.3 scoring average through 17 rounds of golf this season. Shelley has played 95 rounds of golf for Central Oklahoma, which is the seventh most in school history. She also ranks in the Top 10 in school history for career scoring average (78.1).

Castillo enters this week's tournament with a 78.0 scoring average through 17 rounds of golf. She lowered that average last week with a 36-hole 151 (76-75). In Edmond, the freshman from Spain tied for ninth in last week's tournament.

Khunarak has a team-low 76.7 scoring average this season. She's also played in all 17 rounds for the Bronchos. The senior from Thailand finished 11th last week with rounds of 3-over 73 and 9-over 79.

Sturch, also a freshman, is averaging a 77.9 this season through nine rounds of golf. The Durant native narrowly missed a Top 20 last week, coming in 21st. Sturch shot a 36-hole 157 (78-79).

Ramos, who like Shelley is among the all-time leader in rounds played, is second on the team this season with a 76.9 scoring average. She's played in all 17 rounds this season and is looking to bounce back after last week's 160 (82-78). Ramos has played 82 career rounds with the Bronchos in four seasons of golf, including a school record 31 last season. Her career 78.8 scoring average is also among the best in program history.

Central Oklahoma has a bit of a layoff following this week's tournament. The Bronchos will send a reserve squad to Oklahoma City for the one-day Kyle Blaser Invitational at The Greens Country Club March 25. UCO's regulars aren't back in action until April 8-9 in Missouri for Arkansas Tech's tournament at Rivercut Golf Course.
