UCO Closes Regular Season At Shangri-La

Central Oklahoma closes out the regular season schedule this week when the Bronchos travel to Monkey Island, Okla. for the Showdown at Shangri-La.

Rogers State is hosting the 15-team, 54-hole tournament at Shangri-La Golf Resort. Thirty-six holes are on tap Monday, with the final 18 Tuesday and a shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m. both days.

UCO has won its last two tournaments after four straight runner-up showings and has placed in the top three in all eight events during the fall and spring seasons.

"We've been consistent all year and have taken it up a notch the last couple of weeks," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "This is the last designated MIAA tournament and our final tune-up before the conference tournament, so we need to play well against a good field."

Bennett Baldwin, Baylor Bostick, Dylan Henderson, Kyle Hickey and Jordan Wilson will make up UCO's five-man contingent.

All five starters finished among the individual leaders last week as the Bronchos claimed the Skip Wagnon Invitational crown at Rose Creek in Edmond.

Wilson was runner-up at three-under-par 210 after falling in the first hole of a playoff for medalist honors following rounds of 68-68-74. Bostick tied for third at two-under 211, Baldwin tied for fifth at one-under 212, Hickey tied for eighth at one-over 214 and Henderson tied for 11th at four-over 217.

Wilson leads the team with a stellar 71.25 scoring average in four tournaments. The junior transfer and Edmond native has been in the top-four in all four events with the Bronchos.

Henderson has a 72.63 average in eight tournaments with five top-20 finishes and Baldwin is at 72.76 in seven outings with three straight top-10 placings. Hickey has been in the top-10 in three of the four events he's played in and carries a 72.97 average, while Bostick is at 74.04.

Th
e Bronchos will have a couple of weeks after this tournament to prepare for the MIAA Championships, which are set for April 15-17 in Kansas City, Mo.
