Bronchos In OKC Monday For Kyle Blaser Invite

Central Oklahoma Sending Reserves To The Greens Country Club For NAIA Event

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma is back on the course Monday for the one-day Kyle Blaser Invitational at the Greens Country Club.

The Bronchos will make two trips around the 5,955-yard Par 72 course Monday. UCO is utilizing the tournament to get some of its reserves time on the course.

"We've had a competitive spring of qualifying, but that means someone is getting to play," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "This tournament is right down the road and gives us a chance to let some of the team get live tournament golf in and add to their experience."

Scarlet Sturch, MaKaylee Cowan, Drew Faires, Mimi Hoang, and Abbey McNeil will make up the UCO squad in OKC this week. All five will tee off at 8:30 a.m.

Sturch will start on No. 10, Cowan on No. 11, and Faires and Hoang both on No. 12, while McNeil will get started on No. 13.

Sturch, a freshman from Durant, Oklahoma, has played 12 rounds of golf for the Bronchos this season. She has a 78.5 scoring average through five tournaments.

Cowan, a freshman from Yukon, Oklahoma, has played in three tournaments and has an 80.2 scoring average after seven rounds of golf. Faires has played in four tournaments this season, with the junior from Oklahoma City and a transfer from Redlands posting a 79.8 scoring average after 10 rounds of golf.

Hoang is set to play in her second career tournament. The freshman from Oklahoma City is averaging a 77.7 scoring average after two rounds in the Grace Shin Invitational in the fall. Hoang finished 20th in the tournament with a 9-over-par 151.

McNeil is playing her first career tournament with Central Oklahoma. The sophomore from Castroville, Texas and Florida Southeastern transfer joined the program at semester and will make her UCO debut this week.

Central Oklahoma will compete in Arkansas Tech's two-day tournament April 8-9 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Missouri. That is the final event of the regular season for the Bronchos, who will head to Bolivar, Missouri for the 2024 MIAA Women's Golf Championships April 22-24 at Silo Ridge Country Club.
