SEATTLE – No. 2 Central Oklahoma won a pair of Varsity 8+ races in the Falcon Regatta Saturday as the Bronchos raced the best talent in the country against host and third-ranked Seattle Pacific and defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Cal Poly Humboldt.
The Bronchos finished third in two Varsity 4+ races Saturday, with SPU taking first in both of those. Humboldt finished second in all four races.
"We had an enjoyable Spring Break week all around," UCO head rowing coach Jen Gilbert said. "We got in a good training volume load during the front half of the week on camp, before travelling here to Seattle. We tried some different lineups during racing to see what speed we could get, our team members got to see some of the sights of Seattle plus spend some quality time with their families. It has been a good week all round for the Central Oklahoma team. From here we head home and into our next round of trials for the Boathouse."
In the second race of the day Saturday, the first V4+ contest, UCO finished third with a time of 8:08.40, 12 seconds back of Seattle Pacific. The Bronchos responded with a big win in the V8+ race after that, taking first with a time of 7:09.70, four seconds ahead of Humboldt and 13 seconds ahead of SPU.
In session two, the results were the same. UCO got third in the fours with a time of 8:20.30, 15 seconds back of SPU, and first in the eights with a time of 7:01.70, eight seconds in front of Humboldt and 13 seconds in front of Seattle Pacific.
Central Oklahoma returns home for racing next week. The Bronchos are hosting Wichita State and Oklahoma State in Oklahoma City Saturday, March 30.
