Central Oklahoma Takes On PV Relays

Bronchos Visit Prairie View A&M For Two-Day Meet In Texas

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Central Oklahoma continues Outdoor Season with the PV Relays Friday and Saturday at Prairie View A&M.

UCO is sending 17 student-athletes to the two-day event. Action begins early Friday morning with field events and has preliminary running events going all afternoon. Saturday's finals begin in the early afternoon.

Dahsauni Lyday leads the Bronchos into this weekend. The senior All-MIAA thrower finished second in the shot put and hammer throw last week at North Texas. She'll compete in both of those events this weekend, as well as the discus throw. Throwers Abigail Kelly (shot put, discus) and Lauren Wilson (discus and hammer) will also join Lyday this weekend.

Kelsey Drapeau (long jump), and Mattison Thetford and Talyn Been (pole vault), are the only other field-event participants for Central Oklahoma this weekend.

Drapeau, who is also running in the 200, jumped 5.77 meters last week at North Texas in her first jump of Outdoor season. This year's NCAA Outdoor provisional mark for the long jump is 5.84 meters.

Thetford and Been are both making their sophomore Outdoor season debuts this weekend. Thetford hit 3.55 meters last season, improving her height in five consecutive meets up to that point. Been cleared a season-best 3.20 meters four different times during her rookie season last spring.

UCO has 11 sprinters and distance runners competing this weekend. Deriayah Lee is the lone hurdler for the Bronchos, scheduled to compete in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles. The freshman made her Outdoor collegiate debut at North Texas last week in the 100-meter hurdles (15.35 seconds) and finished 10th in the event.

Four freshmen sprinters will compete in the 100- and 200-meter dash. Karly Clemons, Mikayla Stephenson, and Jakayla Swanson will all compete in both. Treasure Vallerie will too, in addition to running the 400 as well.

Vallerie did not compete last week after taking a brief pause following the freshman's appearance in two events at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships earlier this month where she earned All-American honors.

Two other freshmen, Sai Brookins-Fleming and Kerrigan Huynh, as well as junior Reta Ojene, will all compete in both the 200- and 400-meter dash with Vallerie.

Middle distance veteran Genevieve Young will run in both the 400 and 800 races, and distance runners Noel Buckhaults and Kylee Smith will both run in the 1,500 this weekend.

Central Oklahoma is spending most of its Outdoor season in Texas. The Bronchos are competing at North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Texas, and back to North Texas, all before a meet at OU next month. UCO will also compete at Oklahoma Baptist before the MIAA Outdoor Championships in May.
