Dahsauni Lyday Leads Bronchos In Texas

Central Oklahoma Opens Outdoor Season This Weekend At North Texas

DENTON, Texas – Central Oklahoma's veteran all-conference thrower Dahsauni Lyday earned a pair of runner-up finishes to start Outdoor season this weekend at North Texas' Bill Schmidt Classic.

Lyday finished second in the shot put with a 13.88-meter toss. She also finished second in the hammer throw, hitting 44.93 meters. The two marks were her 50th and 51st career Top 10 finishes as a thrower for the Bronchos.

Kelsey Drapeau also put together a top-10 performance in the long jump this weekend. She finished seventh in the long jump at 5.77 meters (18 feet, 11 1/4 inches). The mark is a career-best for the senior transfer from Southwestern Christian. She just hit 5.70 meters at the MIAA Indoor Championships last month to set a UCO Indoor record.

Jakayla Swanson, Sai Brookins-Fleming, Makayla Stephenson, and Karly Clemons all ran in the 100-meter prelims on Friday. Swanson finished eighth to qualify for the finals with a time of 11.84 seconds. Her time was 0.01 seconds off a 27-year-old UCO Outdoor record set by Heather Wilson in 1997. Swanson did not compete in Saturday's finals.

Brookins-Fleming finished ninth in the prelims with a time of 11.91 seconds. Stephenson (12.81) and Clemons (13.25) finished 20th and 23rd respectively.

Deriayah Lee made her Outdoor debut in the 100-meter hurdles and finished 10th in the prelims just outside of qualifying for the finals. Lee raced to a 15.35-second mark, just 0.39 off the finals mark.

Lauren Wilson also made her Outdoor debut and threw in the hammer alongside Lyday. The freshman hit 33.45 meters in her first collegiate event.

Noel Buckhaults and Kylee Smith ran the 1,500 for Central, with the duo finishing 24th and 25th. Buckhaults logged a time of 5:39.78, and Smith 5:45.56 in the event.

Central Oklahoma is spending its first four weekends of Outdoor season in Texas. The Bronchos are going to Houston and Austin for the next two meets following this weekend's event in Denton. UCO will return to Denton next month before finally competing in Norman at OU's John Jacobs Invitational later in April.
