Central Oklahoma Visits Arkansas Fort Smith

Bronchos Take On Future MIAA Member In Non-Conference Dual

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Central Oklahoma continues its month-long stretch of games away from campus with a non-conference dual against future MIAA member Arkansas Fort Smith Saturday morning.
 
First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma is 3-2 this season and looking to continue a win streak after the Bronchos beat UT Tyler and St. Mary's two weeks ago in Texas. UCO also beat Southwest Baptist to start the season before dropping two games in Texas to Lubbock Christian and Angelo State.
 
Central Oklahoma is 7-8 in doubles play this season with three teams remaining steady in each of the first five matches this season. Blythe Buntrock and Pete Komada are ranked No. 23 in the country after a 1-4 start to the season. The fall season's regional champs won the opener against SBU, but have dropped four in a row since.
 
Nefeli Zafeiri and Ayaka Koga are 2-3 at No. 2 doubles for the Bronchos and Karyna Yurchenko and Anika Ouwejan are 4-1 at the No. 3 position for the Bronchos. Yurchenko and Ouwejan won each of their first four before suffering the first and only loss of the season two weeks ago.
 
UCO is 16-11 in singles competition after five matches. Komada plays the No. 1 spot and is 1-3 overall. She is ranked No. 46 in the country after one month of play. Buntrock has played No. 2 and No. 3 and is 2-2 on the year. She is ranked No. 71 in the country.
 
Zafeiri has also played the second and third positions in the lineup for the Bronchos and is 3-1 on the year. Yurchenko is 3-2, all at No. 4 singles, and Ouwejan is 4-1, all at No. 5 singles. Koga is 3-2 at the sixth position in the lineup.
 
Arkansas Fort Smith, which will join the MIAA in 2024-25, is 2-9 this season. The Lions are hosting the Bronchos in what will be their last non-conference match of the season before UAFS opens Lone Star Conference play next week.
 
Central Oklahoma still has two more weeks before its next home game. The Bronchos are scheduled to visit Clinton, Mississippi to take on Mississippi College and West Alabama before a strip to St. Joseph, Missouri for the first MIAA match of the year against Missouri Western.
 
UCO returns to Broncho Courts in Edmond April 5 against Fort Hays State.
