Treasure Vallerie Selected For Next Months National Championships

Central Oklahoma Freshman Qualified In Two Events For NCAA Divsion II Indoor Track & Field National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Central Oklahoma freshman Treasure Vallerie is heading to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships, it was announced Tuesday.

Vallerie, from San Antonio, Texas, qualified for the national championships in two events. She set school records at UCO in both the 200- and 400-meter races this season, and now will have a chance to earn All-American honors and a national title in those two events.

"I'm really proud of Treasure for all of her work in her first season of college track," second-year head women's track & field coach Gus Schmader said. "She is so talented and has a great work ethic, and now she'll get the chance to do it on the national stage. To get to this point so early is such a great accomplishment for her."

The 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships are scheduled for March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kansas. Pittsburg State is hosting the two-day meet at the Robert Plaster Center. Vallerie has competed in two meets at the venue.

In her first season of collegiate competition, the San Antonio native has flourished for the Bronchos. Vallerie made her career debut at Pitt State Jan. 19 and finished fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 400 with times of 25.36 seconds and 57.30 seconds, respectively.

The Bronchos returned to Pittsburg the next week and Vallerie finished 10th and ninth in the two events, running a 24.85 in the 200 and a 56.62 in the 400 meters. That effort in the 200 was 0.01 seconds off the school record.

Vallerie made her third appearance of the season Feb. 9-10 in Topeka at Washburn's Ichabod Invitational. She finished 11th in the 200 and sixth in the 400 meters. This time, she broke the school record in the 200 with a time of 24.70 seconds. She ran the 400 in 57.48 seconds.

In just her fourth career meet, last weekend in Topeka, Vallerie shattered her own record in the 200 with a third-place finish at the 2024 MIAA Championships in 24.04 seconds. She also set a new school record in the 400, 55.40 seconds, in getting on the podium in that event too with another third-place finish.

Vallerie is Central Oklahoma's first national qualifier under second-year head coach Schmader. The freshman highlights an Indoor season that has seen numerous personal records, school records, and NCAA provisional qualifying marks. She preps for nationals as the rest of the surging Bronchos prepare for the start of Outdoor season March 15 in Texas.
