Another Record, PRs, and Provisional Marks Highlight UCO's Trip To Topeka

Central Oklahoma Wraps Up Indoor Regular Season, Turns Attention To Conference Championships

TOPEKA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma wrapped up its Indoor Track & Field regular season this weekend and the Bronchos continued a season-long successful trend.

Treasure Vallerie broke the 200-meter school record at Central Oklahoma and hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Sai Brookins-Fleming (200m), Mattison Thetford (pole vault), Reta Ojene (400), and Lauren Wilson (weight throw) all reached personal bests on the weekend for the Bronchos.

"It was a good weekend for them but for all of us really," UCO head women's track & field coach Gus Schmader said. "It was a good meet for us with conference right around the corner."

Central Oklahoma will return to Topeka in two weeks for the 2024 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 23-25.

Saturday, Vallerie competed in both the 200 and 400. She placed 11th in the 200 with a time of 24.70 seconds. That mark set a new school record and is a provisional qualifying mark for next month's national championships. In the 400, the true freshman raced to a sixth-place finish with a time of 57.48 seconds.

Dahsauni Lyday also hit a provisional qualifying mark this weekend. Friday in the shot put, the All-MIAA senior thrower hit 13.64 meters for a fourth-place finish. Saturday, she finished 13th in the weight throw (14.86m).

Brookins-Fleming, also a true freshman, also competed in the 200 and 400 on Saturday. She finished sixth in the 400 (57.48 seconds) and 17th in the 200 (25.29). The latter is a PR for the rookie. She also ran in the 60-meter qualifying Friday and finished 18th, missing another PR by 0.04 seconds.

Thetford, a sophomore, had a strong performance in the pole vault. She cleared 3.15 meters, 3.30, 3.45, and then 3.60 for a new PR. Thetford missed on her attempts at 3.75 meters, which won the event, and finished fourth in the invite-only group.

Talyn Been finished eighth in the open pole vault group with a 3.25-meter mark.

Jakayla Swanson and Deriayah Lee both had standout performances on Friday in qualifying races. Swanson finished seventh in the 60 meters (7.82 seconds) and Lee finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.19 seconds). On Saturday in the prelims, Swanson finished 27th (7.94) and Lee finished 18th (9.28).

Genevieve Young added an eighth-place finish in the 600-yard race. The junior crossed the finish line in 1:28. She also competed in the 800 and ran 2:24.24 for a 24th-place finish.

Kelsey Drapeau finished 12th in the long jump (5.32m). Wilson finished 39th in the weight throw with her PR, 12.17 meters. Ojene finished 43rd in the 400 with her PR, 1:02.93.

Brookins-Fleming, Mikayla Stephenson, Drapeau, and Karly Clemons, all competed with Swanson in the 60-meter qualifying on Friday. Brookins-Fleming finished 18th with her 7.90 just outside of the top-16 that advanced to Saturday's semifinals. Stephenson finished 39th (8.09), Drapeau 48th (8.22), and Clemons (8.44).

Central Oklahoma competed at Washburn's Indoor Facility for the first time this season this weekend. The Bronchos return to the facility in two weeks for the conference championships.
