Central Crushes Newman In Finale

Bronchos Post 5-0 Shutout To Wrap Up Regular Season

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma scored early and often Wednesday night as the Bronchos closed the 2024 regular season with a 5-0 win at Newman.

The win helped the Bronchos finish the season 10-5-3 with a 7-2-3 mark in the MIAA. Central finished fourth in the league standings and will host a playoff game Sunday in Edmond to begin the postseason.

"I'm proud of the team for the way they finished the regular season," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "It was important for us to take as much momentum as we could into the postseason, and we've not been beaten in five straight matches. We've got a lot of work to do ahead of us, but we're playing really well right now."

Central Oklahoma got an early goal from Rebecca Tweedy and it only took four minutes. The Bronchos earned a corner kick and Harmony Turner put the ball right in front of the goal, where Tweedy headed home the score to make it 1-0.

In the 23rd, it was Rebekah George getting a pass from Emma Nicholas at the top of the box. George took a couple of strides before putting the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0.

That's how the game went to halftime. The Bronchos essentially replicated their performance in the second half.

Just 41 seconds after the restart, Nicholas sent a beautiful through pass 30 yards ahead to Madison Linavong, who put home a goal to make it 3-0.

Then in the 70th, it was George again. This time she found a ball from Newman and turned and fired a 25-yard shot off the left post and into the goal to make it 4-0.

Greta Likens added the final goal. After a foul by Newman, the freshman lined up a free kick just on top of the box 19 yards away from the goal. She placed the shot over the wall and past the keeper for the score to make it the final, 5-0.

Avery Bass played the full 90 in goal for the Bronchos and the junior from Broken Arrow earned her sixth shutout of the season. Bass made five saves to protect the clean sheet. She also recorded her 100th career save to become the 10th player in school history to reach that mark.
