UCO Clinches Home Playoff Game With Win Over UNK

Bronchos Beat Lopers 1-0 On Senior Day To Earn Another Home Contest

EDMOND - Central Oklahoma beat Nebraska Kearney 1-0 on Senior Sunday to lock up the No. 4 seed in next week's MIAA Women's Soccer Championship.

The Bronchos improved to 9-5-3 on the season and are now 6-2-3 in the MIAA. Central has one more game on Wednesday at Northeastern State before the postseason begins.

UCO got its only goal of the day in the opening minute. Monica Bird-Montilla got a long pass moments after the opening kickoff. She chased down the ball on the right side of the field and after gaining possession, took the UNK defense on. She got into the box and close enough to fire and let go with a shot that found the back of the net.

The 1-0 lead 52 seconds into the match was going to be enough on Sunday.

Central Oklahoma held Kearney to just eight total shots in the game and only two were on target. Maddie Ortwein earned the shutout win with two saves.

The MIAA Women's Soccer Championship begins Sunday with the quarterfinals. The top four teams in the final standings will host on campus before the semifinals and championship match Nov. 6 & & in Wichita, Kansas. UCO is locked into the No. 4 seed in the tournament. The Bronchos will host an opponent still to be determined on Sunday, Nov. 1 at Tom Thompson Field.
