Maddie Ortwein Named MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week

Central Oklahoma Keeper Earned Fifth Shutout Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Central Oklahoma redshirt freshman Maddie Ortwein was named MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Ortwein led Central Oklahoma to a pair of crucial MIAA wins in Edmond this week that helped the Bronchos secure a home playoff game in next week's MIAA Women's Soccer Championships. She made five saves in two games and only conceded one goal on a penalty.

Friday afternoon against Fort Hays State, the Tigers put one in the back of the net, but Ortwein made three saves. On Sunday afternoon, she made two saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season. Opponents took 14 total shots against the Bronchos in the two games this week.

Ortwein, a second-year player from Owasso, Oklahoma, has been key in UCO's success this season. The Bronchos are 9-5-3 heading into the final match of the regular season Wednesday night at Northeastern State. Ortwein is 8-4-3 in goal and has only conceded 12 goals in 15 games. She has five solo shutouts and one combined shutout this season. Ortwein has 49 saves this season.
