Broncho Linebacker Earns Top Honor After Dominating Week 11 Performance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma sophomore linebacker Jack Puckett was named MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week, presented by Mammoth, the league announced Monday.

Puckett led No. 8 Central Oklahoma to a dominating 55-38 win against Emporia State Saturday in Edmond, locking up the MIAA Championships for the Bronchos. UCO finished the season 10-1 overall and 8-1 in league play to claim top honors in the conference.

Puckett and the UCO defense were incredible. He made a team-high 12 tackles and had one sack while pressuring the quarterback twice.

Central held Emporia's high-octane offense to minus-11 yards in the first quarter, and through two more drives in the second quarter, ESU was up to one total yard. Puckett and the defense made five quarterback sacks and forced a change under center from the Hornets.

Puckett leads Central with 87 tackles this season. He has a team-high 13 tackles for a loss and six sacks this season. Puckett also has five quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble this season.

Central Oklahoma is headed back to the NCAA Division II Football Championship for the first time since 2003. The Bronchos are hosting Ouachita Baptist in the first round Saturday in Edmond. Kickoff from Chad Richison Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
