UCO Finishes 16th In Regional Preview

Central Oklahoma Hosted Grace Shin Invitational/Central Region Preview Monday & Tuesday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma finished 16th at its own Grace Shin Invitational/Central Regional Preview Tuesday at KickingBird Golf Club.

UCO posted a 36-hole score of 609 (308-301). Central Missouri won the team title with a 573 (286-287), two shots in front of second-place Harding's 575 (288-287). Henderson State (581), Arkansas Tech (582), and Nebraska Kearney and Rogers State (584) rounded out the top five.

Jirasuda Khunarak led Central Oklahoma individually with a 40th-place finish at 10-over-par 150. The fifth-year senior from Thailand shot an 8-over 78 on Monday and came back strong on Tuesday with a 2-over 72. Khunarak countered six bogeys on Tuesday with four birdies.

Scarlet Sturch had UCO's low score on Monday and finished as the second lowest squad member with an 11-over-par 151 following Tuesday's final round. After the 4-over 74 on Monday, Sturch had five bogeys and one double to settle on a 7-over 77 Tuesday.

Just as Sturch was one back of Khunarak, Estela Castillo was one back of Sturch. Castillo, a sophomore from Spain, finished with a 12-over 152. She shot a 9-over 79 on Monday and responded with a strong 3-over Tuesday. Castillo had three birdies in the second round.

A pair of freshmen joined the lineup for the Bronchos. Layne Ailshie finished 84th with a 17-over 157 (77-80) and Josey Cavitt finished 91st with a 19-over 159 (80-79).

Central Oklahoma has just one more tournament left on the fall schedule. The Bronchos will travel to Maryville, Mo. next week for Northwest Missouri's Midwest Classic at Mozingo Lake Golf Course.

UCO returns in February for the spring season.
