Central Crushes Regional Preview

Bronchos Win By 31 Shots At Missouri Western's Tournament

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – For the second time in three tournaments this season, Central Oklahoma claimed top honors with the Bronchos winning Missouri Western's Holiday Inn Express Invitational/Central Region Preview Tuesday at St. Joseph Country Club.

And Central did it in style.

UCO posted a scorching 27-under-par 825 and beat runner-up and host Missouri Western by 31 shots.

"The guys played well and kept on it, it was fun to watch," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "It was really good to see them play as well today as they did yesterday. To be able to keep up that level of play for three rounds is something we're really pleased with."

Central Oklahoma shot a 12-under 272 and a 7-under 277 on Monday, then came back for the final round with an 8-under 276 on Tuesday.

The 54-hole score is the third-best mark in school history, just two more shots than last year's regional championship winning score. The first-round 12-under 272 is tied for the fourth-best single round (by strokes and vs. par) in school history.

UCO, which torched the field Monday with 44 birdies and three eagles, kept it up with 23 more birdies and one eagle on Tuesday for a total of 67 birdies and four eagles in the tournament.

While Central Oklahoma did not come away with an individual title this week, the Bronchos did place second, third, fifth, seventh, and 18th in the field.

Bennett Baldwin finished second with a 9-under 204. The senior from Stillwater shot rounds of 65 & 72 on Monday and came back Tuesday with a 4-under 67. The 54-hole 204 for Baldwin is his third-lowest career score (201 & 202) and the seventh-best mark in school history.

Jordan Wilson finished third with a 7-under-par 206. The senior from Edmond shot rounds of 69 & 67 on Monday before firing a 1-under 70 in Tuesday's final round.

Dylan Henderson, another senior who is from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, finished fifth on Tuesday. He shot rounds of 68 & 71 on Monday before coming back with another 3-under 68 Tuesday.

Nick Canales made it four Top 10s for the Bronchos with his seventh-place finish. The sophomore from La Porte, Texas shot a 3-under-par 210, with rounds of 70 & 67 on Monday and a 2-over 73 on Tuesday.

Karsten Paciotti was also in the lineup and also finished in the Top 20. The senior from Katy, Texas shot a 3-over-par 216, with rounds of 71-74-71. Ty Hyatt, a freshman from Stillwater, made his collegiate debut this week playing as an individual. Hyatt finished 70th with a 13-over 226 (73-74-79).

Central Oklahoma will take next week off before returning to the course Oct. 21-22 in Topeka, Kansas. The Bronchos will take on the field at Washburn University's Ichabod Invitational at Topeka Country Club.

UCO wraps up the fall schedule with the DBU Classic at Rockwall Golf Club in Texas Oct. 28-29.
