WACO, Texas – Central Oklahoma continued its winning ways in Week 5 and now is continuing its climb up the national rankings too.
The Bronchos are ranked 13th in the AFCA Top 25 and are 11th in the D2Football.com Top 25, up from No. 17 in both polls last week.
Central Oklahoma is 5-0 this season and 4-0 in the MIAA. The Bronchos went on the road and beat Missouri Southern 59-24 Saturday afternoon in Joplin. UCO is off to the best start since the 2004 team started 6-0.
The successful front half of the season this fall has much to do with the offensive firepower on display by the Bronchos. Central leads the country in total offense (587.4 yards per game) and ranks second nationally in scoring (53.8 PPG). UCO also ranks fourth in passing (342.2 yards per game) and 10th in rushing (245.2 yards per game).
Central will go for that mark on Saturday in Edmond. The Bronchos are hosting Northwest Missouri (4-2, 4-1 MIAA) at 1 p.m. at Chad Richison Stadium. UCO has won two in a row in Edmond against the Bearcats from Maryville, Mo. NWMSU was ranked No. 22 in the preseason. The team is on a four-game win streak following an 0-2 start.
