Bronchos, Wilson Claim Wins At DBU Classic

UCO Rallies For Third Win of the Fall Season While Jordan Wilson Secures His First Win

ROCKWALL, Texas – Jordan Wilson and Bennett Baldwin finished 1-2 in the individual standings as Central Oklahoma ran away with the Dallas Baptist Classic title Tuesday to wrap up the fall season.

The Bronchos trailed UT-Tyler by one shot entering final-round play at the wind-whipped 7,301-yard, par-72 Rockwall Golf and Country Club, but ended up beating the Patriots by 18 strokes. UCO closed with a 296 to finish the 12-team, 54-hole tourney with an 878 total.

It was the third win in five fall tournaments for the Bronchos, who also had a runner-up finish.

"It was really tough out there today," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "It was hard to stay focused with all the wind, but the guys really buckled down to get the job done. I'm proud of what we did this fall and we're going to work hard to come back even better in the spring."

Bennett had the low round of the day for UCO with an even-par 72, while Wilson shot 73 on a day when the average score was 78.28. The Bronchos also got a 74 from Nick Canales, a 77 from Baylor Bostick and a 778 from Dylan Henderson.

Wilson won the first tournament of his short Central career, ending with a two-under-par 214 total. The returning All-American had five runner-up finishes in his first 11 tournaments with the Bronchos, including in last year's NCAA Division II Championships.

Baldwin tied for second at even-par 216 and Canales tied for eighth at four-over 220. Karsten Paciotti had a stellar outing playing as an individual medalist for the Bronchos, coming in fourth at one-over 217 after a final-round 74.

Baldwin and Wilson both started final-round play on No. 1 and neither got off to a particularly strong start on the front nine.

Baldwin had eight pars and double bogey in making the turn at two-over 38, then bogeyed No. 11 to fall to three-over. The senior All-American responded with birdies on the par-3 12th, par-4 17th and par-5 18th to rally for a back-nine 34.

Wilson had two bogeys and a double bogey against one birdie in carding a front-nine 39. The senior birdied the par-4 10th, offset that with a bogey on No. 15 and then birdied the final two par-5s on the course – Nos. 16 and 18 – in capping off a back-nine 34.

Paciotti had a consistent round with 16 pars and two bogeys in his 74, while Canales had four bogeys, two birdies and 12 pars in equaling that.
