Wilson, UCO Second In Dallas Baptist Tourney

ROCKWALL, Texas – Jordan Wilson used a pair of back-nine comebacks to get in the thick of the individual race and lead Central Oklahoma to a second-place showing after first day play in the Dallas Baptist Classic Monday.

Wilson made eight birdies on the back nine during the 36-hole day to rally for rounds of 70-71, leaving him second in the medalist standings at three-under-par  141. The Bronchos rallied in both the morning and afternoon rounds to shoot 292-290 in finishing at six-over 582.

UCO trails leader Texas-Tyler by one shot heading into Tuesday's final round at the 7,301-yard, par-72 Rockwall Golf and Country Club, with UT-Dallas third in the 12-team tournament at 593. Final-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.

"We got off to a terrible start, but our guys did a great job staying in the moment and coming back the way they did," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "We didn't panic and made a lot of birdies on the back nine in both rounds to get ourselves in position."

Bennett Baldwin shot 73-71 for an even-par 144 total that has him tied for seventh and Nick Canales is tied for 11th at 146 after rounds of 72-74. UCO also got rounds of 78-74 from Baylor Bostick and 77-76 from Dylan Henderson, while Karsten Paciotti shot 69-74 playing as an individual for a 143 total that has him tied for fifth.

Wilson started play on No. 1 and was three-over after 11 holes in the morning round. He bounced back impressively down the stretch, carding birdies on the par-4 13th, par-3 14th, par-4 15th, par-4 17th and par-5 18th in playing the final seven holes five-under to finish with a two-under 70.

The senior All-American started slow again in the second round and was two-over after 10 holes. Wilson got it going again down the stretch, ripping off three birdies in his final eight holes to rally for a 71 that has him just one shot behind UT-Tyler's Jackson Naeger in the individual standings.

Baldwin also opened first-round play on No. 1 and got off to a slow start. He was two-over after 10 holes before reeling off seven pars and a birdie on the par-4 13th in carding a one-over 73.

The senior All-American was two-over after 10 holes again in the afternoon, but responded with an even better comeback. Baldwin birdied the par-4 13th, par-3, 14th and par-5 16th in rallying for a two-under 71.

Paciotti had five birdies in
his opening-round 69 before carding an afternoon 74 to finish at one-under for the day.
