UCO Takes On Jets In Wichita Saturday Afternoon

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma wraps up a three-game road trip Saturday with an MIAA matchup against Newman. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Central Oklahoma is 4-14 overall this season and has a 3-9 record in the MIAA. The Jets from Wichita are 2-16 on the year and 1-11 in league play.

UCO is 9-1 against Newman in the brief history between the two schools. The Bronchos won 106-35, their largest win in school history, during the 1996-97 season when Newman was still an NAIA institution. UCO had an eight-game win streak snapped last year. The Bronchos are 7-1 against the Jets in MIAA contests.

Newman has one league win and it came at Emporia State earlier this month three days before the Bronchos came up short at ESU. The Jets, averaging 57.4 points per game, have lost five in a row since that win.

Newman is led by a trio of leading scorers. Jaeden McMillin (8.6), Carissa Beck (8.4), and Valeriya Lioukina (8.2) pace the team while Amiya Josey (7.5) is right behind. Lioukina has a team-high 4.9 rebounds per game.

Central Oklahoma heads to Wichita averaging 63.7 points per game this season. The Bronchos are shooting 37.9 percent from the floor, 28.1 percent from behind the 3-point line, and 72.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Reagan Fox leads the Bronchos at 8.9 points per game and Karly Wadsworth is the second-leading scorer at 8.6 points per game. Those two lead UCO from outside as well. Wadsworth has a team-high 33 made 3-pointers and Fox has made 27 from deep. Fox is also the leading free-throw shooter at 92.7 percent, making 38 of 41 on the year.

Alena Wilson and Aliyah Llanusa lead UCO in both scoring and rebounding. Wilson is at 7.2 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. Llanusa is at 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

LaKysia Johnson averages 6.3 points per game in her first season with the Bronchos while Natalie Stice averages 5.9 in her first year with UCO. Caley Young, in her fourth year, is averaging 5.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Gracee Miller, who scored a career-high 14 in a road win at Northwest Missouri last week, is averaging 3.7 points per game in her freshman season. Talia Pogi, a sophomore, is averaging 3.5 points per game in her first year at UCO.

UCO wraps up a three-game road trip with Saturday's contest at Newman. The Bronchos are looking to go 2-1 on the trip. Central Oklahoma returns home next week and will host Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern Feb. 1 & 3 respectively at Hamilton Field House.

Central Oklahoma has 10 games left in the regular season, five at home and five on the road. The Bronchos are currently tied for 11th in the MIAA standings, just two games back from 10th-place Northeastern State. The top 10 teams make the postseason tournament March 6-10 in Kansas City.
