Central Oklahoma opens up the 2023-24 men's golf season Monday and Tuesday with a trip to Sunrise, Mo. for the Lincoln Invitational.
Thirty-six holes are on tap Monday at the 7,060-yard, par-72 The Club at Porto Cima before the tournament finishes with 18 holes Tuesday. It's the first of five fall tournaments for the Bronchos of third-year head coach Derrick Thompson.
"Qualifying went really well," said Thompson, who has nine returners and four newcomers on his 13-player roster. "It was really competitive and a lot of guys played well.
"I'm excited to see how it goes. We've got some new guys that are really pushing our veteran players and I think it's going to help make everybody better. We're looking forward to seeing what we can do this year."
Making up UCO's five-man contingent in the season opener will be seniors Evan Griffith and Ross Taylor, juniors Bennett Baldwin and Dylan Henderson and freshman Baylor Bostick. Redshirt freshman Nicholas Canales will also compete as an individual medalist.
Baldwin played in all 12 tournaments last year, compiling six top-20 finishes with one win in compiling a 74.06 average. Griffith was right behind at 74.24 while also having six top-20 showings and one win in 12 events.
Taylor finished in the top-20 five times in 11 tournaments and had a 74.81 average. Henderson had a pair of top-20 finishes in six tournaments and posted a 77.33 average.
Bostick was a two-time state runner-up at Duncan High School, while Canales was an All-State performer at La Porte (Texas) High School before spending a redshirt year at Nebraska in 2022-23.
