Emily Deramus Named Finalist for NFCA Freshman of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A sensational rookie season has Central Oklahoma's Emily Deramus a finalist for the 2023 TUCCI/NFCA Division II Freshman of the Year award, it was announced Wednesday.

A product of Edmond North High School, Deramus took over at shortstop at the outset of the season and has started all 56 games for the No. 4-ranked Bronchos. She joins on the ballot seven other finalists - one from each region - for the DII Freshman of the Year award.

Deramus is hitting .361 with team highs in at bats (194), hits (70) and doubles (19) to go along with 12 homers and 46 RBI. She has a team-best 22 multi-hit games, is batting a team-high .433 with runners in scoring position and has also been a defensive standout all year.

"This is a great honor for Emily and one she's obviously very deserving of," head coach Cody White said. "Emily has been an amazing player for us all year, both offensively and defensively, and the best is yet to come for her."

Deramus was named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Freshman of the Year and a first-team All-MIAA pick two weeks ago. She also picked up first-team All-Region honors from the Conference Commissioner's Association (CCA) and second-team All-Region honors from the NFCA.

UCO, 50-6 on the season, will host Southern Arkansas in the Super Regionals Thursday and Friday at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.
