Kimmel's 70 Leads UCO In Regional

WINONA, Minn. (May 12) – Caleb Kimmel carded a one-under-par 70 to pace Central Oklahoma in the second round of the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional Friday.

The Bronchos finished with a 296 and have a 595 total after two trips around the 6,788-yard, par-71 The Bridges Golf Club, leaving them 15th in the 20- tournament. Grand Valley State leads with a 563 total.

Final-round play begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Evan Griffith and Kyle Hickey both shot 75 for the Bronchos, while Bennett Baldwin had a 76 and Ross Taylor a 77.

Kimmel knocked 10 strokes off his opening-day score with his 70, which tied for the second-best round of the day.

The junior opened play with a birdie on the par-4 first hole, gave that shot back with a bogey on No. 4 and then went back to one-under with a birdie on the par-5 fifth.

Kimmel finished the front nine with four straight pars for a one-under 35, then double bogeyed No. 10. He got back to even with a birdie on the par-4 12th, followed with five pars in a row and ended the day with an 18th hole birdie.
