Bennett Leads UCO In Regional

WINONA, Minn. (May 11) – Bennett Baldwin fired a first-round 73 to lead Central Oklahoma in opening-day play at the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional Thursday.

The Bronchos carded an opening 299 and are tied for 16th in the 20-team tournament. Grand Valley State leads with a 276 total, with Findlay and Ashland tied for second at 287.

UCO begins second-round play in the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 10 a.m. Friday at the 6,788-yard, par-71 The Bridges Golf Club.

Evan Griffith and Kyle Hickey both shot 75 for the Bronchos, while Ross Taylor had a 76 and Caleb Kimmel an 80.

Baldwin opened his round with four straight pars, birdied the par-5 fifth and bogeyed No. 8 in making the turn at even-par 36. The sophomore made consecutive bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11, birdied the par-4 13th and then made four consecutive pars before bogeying the 18th for a back-nine 37.

Griffith was two-over par after three holes, then reeled off 13 pars in a row before bogeying the final two for a 75. Hickey made six bogeys and a pair of birdies in his 75.
