Mattison Thetford & Talyn Been Top Pole Vaulters In Kansas

WINFIELD, Kan. – Mattison Thetford and Talyn Been tied for first in the pole vault at the Mike Kirkland Southwestern Relays Saturday to lead Central Oklahoma's contingent in the final meet of the 2023 regular season.

Both hit 3.20 meters, or 10 feet, six inches. The freshmen have led the Bronchos several times this season. Been has cleared 3.20 meters four times. Thetford hit a PR last week with a 3.55-meter vault. Jolie Oliver (2.90m) and Luz Lugo-Ponce (2.75m) also competed and finished seventh and eight respectively.
 
Noel Buckhaults ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday and was the only competitor in the event. She finished in 13:01.74. Kylee Smith ran the 1,500 and finished fifth with a time of 6:01.64. Gracie Tytenicz also competed for the Bronchos and finished 14th in the shot put with a 9.75-meter throw.
 
Central Oklahoma is gearing up for the 2023 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships next weekend, May 5-7, in Jefferson City, Mo.
