Jirasuda Khunarak Leads Bronchos At MIAA Championship

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma opened the 2023 MIAA Women's Golf Championship Monday and the Bronchos are fifth in the team standings after the first round of competition.

UCO shot a 328. Central Missouri is first in the team standings after shooting 310. Rogers State (314), Missouri Southern (322) and Northeastern State (323) are in front of UCO in the top five.

Jirasuda Khunarak leads the Bronchos after one round of play. The junior shot a 2-over-par 74 and is third in the individual standings after 18 holes. Paige Hoffman of Northwest Missouri and Hayley Jones from Central Missouri are tied for the individual lead after shooting 1-over in the first round.

Khunarak was 2-over on the front nine with seven par putts and played the back nine even with one birdie and seven more par putts. Her 14 pars on the day is the most of any player in the field.

Mika Ramos and Madison O'Dell both shot opening round 83s and are tied for 23rd in the individual standings. Ramos opened at 8-over through nine holes and then posted a 3-over on the back nine. O'Dell played the front nine 6-over and the back nine 5-over.

Emma Shelley shot a 16-over par, with a 12-over on the back nine. Arin Zachary posted a 17-over on the day.

The second round of the championship is scheduled for Tuesday. Zachary will get things started for the Bronchos. She tees off at 10:10 a.m. with Shelley, O'Dell, Ramos and Khunarak following every 10 minutes. The 2023 MIAA Women's Golf Championship final round is scheduled for Wednesday.
