Bronchos Wrap Up Regular Season in Kansas

EMPORIA, Kan. – No. 27 Central Oklahoma wraps up the 2023 regular season this weekend with two MIAA road matches. Up first, Emporia State.

The Bronhcos will take on the Lady Hornets Saturday at 2 p.m. UCO is also scheduled to take on Newman Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final match of the year.

Central Oklahoma is 8-9 this season with a 3-3 record in league play. Emporia State is 5-11 overall and 1-5 in league play. Newman is 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA.

UCO's No. 4 ranked doubles team of Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock lead the Bronchos into the final weekend. The duo is 12-5 together this season and looking to end the season on a win streak.

Pete Komada and Nefeli Zafeiri have an 11-5 record playing at No. 2 doubles this season and are 8-2 in their last 10 matches. Tizia Brocks has played with both Karyna Yurchenko and Taylor Conway this season. Brocks and Yurchenko are 6-4 together while Brocks and Conway are 2-2.

Komada holds a No. 32 ranking in the latest ITA Singles Top 75 and she is 8-9 on the year. The freshman has a 4-2 record in the MIAA. Buntrock is 6-10 on the year and recently moved to No. 1 singles, where Komada had been for most of the season.

Zafeiri is 8-7 on the year and all 15 matches have been at No. 3 singles. Boyar is 9-6 in singles play and Yurchenko is 8-8. Brocks has a 7-9 singles record this season.

Central Oklahoma will wrap up the 2023 regular season this weekend. The Bronchos are hosting the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship at Edmond Center Court next week with the first round matches set to serve on Friday, April 21. The top two seeds get a first-round bye, while 3-6 compete in the quarterfinals. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, April 22 with the championship match Sunday, April 23.
