UCO Opens Outdoor Season In Texas

ABILENE, Texas – A pair of top-five finishes in the pole vault highlighted Central Oklahoma's Outdoor Track & Field season opener this weekend at Abilene Christian's Wes Kittley Invitational.

Central Oklahoma freshmen Talyn Been and Mattison Thetford both finished tied for fifth place in the pole vault behind Division I competition from Texas Tech and Tarleton State, as well as DII power Angelo State. Been cleared 2.83 meters on her first attempt and 3.03 meters on her first attempt but couldn't get past 3.23 meters. Thetford followed the same pattern, clearing the first two heights on her first attempts before ending the day tied for fifth place.

Luz Lugo-Ponce also competed in the pole vault and finished 11th with a height of 2.83 meters.

Tatum Robertson competed in both the shot put and the hammer throw and finished 11th and 12th respectively. The veteran thrower hit 10.97 meters for an 11th-place finish in the shot put. She threw 39.97 meters in the hammer throw for the 12th-place finish.

Gracie Tytenicz made her UCO debut in the discus Friday afternoon and finished 19th with a 24.63-meter throw. She also competed in the shot put and threw 9.75 meters for a 15th place finish.

Dekayla Gaines raced twice Saturday, finishing 13th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.49 seconds. She also finished 20th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.27 seconds.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to compete at the OBU Invitational next weekend in Shawnee, Oklahoma before taking the following weekend off. UCO will also visit Wichita State, OU, Langston, and Southwestern Kansas in April.
