Home Opener Arrives For No. 9 Bronchos

Central Oklahoma Hosting UT Tyler, No. 19 Angelo State At Edmond Center Court

EDMOND – No. 9 Central Oklahoma is scheduled to make its home debut this weekend with a pair of matches against Lone Star Conference schools at Edmond Center Court.

Central Oklahoma hosts UT-Tyler on Friday at 7 p.m. and will also host Angelo State Saturday at 5 p.m.

"This weekend will be a good weekend against some tough competition," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "Both teams, Tyler and Angelo, are really good and will test us. We're excited to play at home though and ready for the challenge."

UCO is ranked No. 9 in the country in the ITA Top 25. UT Tyler is not ranked. Both teams suffered setbacks against Division I competition this past weekend. The Bronchos lost 7-0 at North Texas and Tyler lost 5-2 at Stephen F. Austin. Angelo State is ranked No. 19. ASU beat Division III Hardin-Simmons 7-0 this past weekend.

Central Oklahoma is led by its top doubles team, Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock, who are ranked No. 4 in the country in the most recent ITA Doubles Top 25. The duo won the ITA's Central Region title in the Fall and is looking to get into the win column this weekend.

Tizia Brocks and Karyna Yurchenko played No. 2 doubles for the Bronchos last weekend and had a 5-4 lead at North Texas when their match was ended. Pete Komada and Nefeli Zafeiri played No. 3 doubles and are also looking for their first win this weekend.

While UCO was swept at North Texas, Brocks claimed one set in the singles portion of the match.

Central Oklahoma will host UT Tyler and Angelo State this weekend, but the Bronchos won't be home again until March 25. UCO has six home duals on its schedule this season and half of them are in the month of April.
