Central Oklahoma Competing In Washburn's Ichabod Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. – The final meet of the 2023 Indoor Track & Field regular season for Central Oklahoma is scheduled for this weekend at Washburn. The two-day Ichabod Invitational begins Friday afternoon.

Dahsauni Lyday and Tatum Robertson are both scheduled to compete in the weight throw and the shot put. Dekayla Gaines and Kyrese Richard are both running in the 60-meter dash. Gaines will also compete in the 200. Korie Kizarr and Gracie Sanders will both run the 3,000-meter race, with Kizarr also taking on the field in the mile. Jakobi Bartling will compete in both high and long jumps. And the four-person pole vault group of Luz Lugo-Ponce, Mattison Thetford, Talyn Been and Jolie Oliver are also competing.

Gaines, Richard, Kizarr and Sanders are all newcomers at UCO this season. Gaines previously competed for Tabor College while the others are freshman this winter.

Gaines has a career-best 8.17-second mark in the 60 meters this season. Her season best in the 200 is 27.13 seconds. She ran a 26.51 previously at Tabor. Richard's best mark this season in the 60 meters is 8.66 seconds.

Sanders posted a 3,000-meter time of 11:08.15 at OU earlier this season. Kizarr, a Broncho standout during Cross Country season, will be making her Indoor debut this weekend.

The UCO throwers take seasoned experience into the weekend.

Robertson, a senior, has competed in the weight throw 16 times in her career with a personal record of 14.23 meters. She's competed in the shot put 19 times and has a PR of 11.86 meters – and that came at Pitt State.

Lyday, a junior, has competed in both events 13 times. Her 15.27-meter toss in the weight throw at Pitt State is a PR. She threw 13.71 meters for a PR in the shot put, with a 13.70 mark in Pittsburg a close second.

Bartling is another newcomer competing in both the high jump and the long jump. She cleared 1.50 meters in the high jump in her first career college track meet earlier this Spring and hit 1.45 meters last week at Washburn. She hit 4.31 meters at Wichita State in her only long jump competition of the season.

Central's pole vault squad has been improving throughout the season. Been (3.15m) and Thetford (3.14m) have the top two marks for UCO this season. Been and Lugo-Ponce (2.85m) both had season best performances at Washburn last week.
