Bronchos Stay No. 1 In Mat Poll

MANHEIM, Pa. (Feb. 17) – Nine ranked individuals was just enough to keep Central Oklahoma atop the NCAA Division II poll that was released Friday by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

The Bronchos totaled 82 points, finishing just two ahead of Lander in the final regular season rankings. St. Cloud State and West Liberty tied for third with 64 points and Nebraska-Kearney was fifth with 59.

The poll is based on points earned by ranked individuals, with nine of UCO's 10 starters listed in the top 12 at their respective weight. Click here for the NWCA release.

Heavyweight Shawn Streck leads the way, moving up from second to first after beating previous No. 1 Lee Herrington of Nebraska-Kearney in Sunday's dual win over the Lopers. The junior big man is 19-0 with 14 bonus-point wins.

The Bronchos have three other individuals in the top five. Defending national champion Dalton Abney is second at 197, while Gabe Johnson remained third at 157 and Anthony DesVigne moved up to fifth at 174.

UCO's other five ranked wrestlers are in the 8-11 range. Studd Morris (125) and Ty Lucas (165) are eighth, while Nate Keim (141) and Brik Filippo (149) are ninth and Alex Kauffman (184) 11th.

The Bronchos, who finished the dual season 13-1, will host the 11-team NCAA Division II Super Regional IV Tournament Feb. 26 at Hamilton Field House. The top-three placers from each of the 10 weights qualify for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, set for March 10-11 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
