UCO Ties For Ninth In Houston Tourney

HOUSTON, Texas (Feb. 14) – Central Oklahoma opened the spring schedule with a ninth-place tie in the Houston Classic that wrapped up Tuesday.
 
The Bronchos closed with a 307 at 6,945-yard, par-72 Golf Club of Houston and finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 913 total. Cameron won the 17-team event at 856, followed by Oklahoma Christian (857) and Midwestern State (869).

"It wasn't the start we wanted, but it was good to get that first tournament of the spring under our belt," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "The guys know the things they need to work on. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll be able to get some good practice days in  over the next couple of weeks."
 
Bennett Baldwin led UCO in the final round with a three-over 75 to finish 22nd in the individual standings with a 223 total. Caleb Kimmel shot 76, while Ross Taylor added a 77 and Kyle Hickey and Dylan Henderson both had 79s.
 
Evan Griffith placed 26th competing as an individual medalist, closing with a 75 for a 224 total.
 
The Bronchos don't return to action until going to Fort Smith, Ark. For the Hardscrabble Invitational on March 6-7.
