Central Oklahoma Races In Regional Championships Saturday In Joplin, Missouri

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma is ready to run in the 2023 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships, hosted Saturday by Missouri Southern State at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

Central Oklahoma has four runners entered into the postseason race, which will be a 6k track. Genevieve Young, Noel Buckhaults, Melohdee Marroquin, and Eden Haack are all set to race.

Young, Buckhaults, and Marroquin have all competed in each of UCO's five events this fall. The trio has been steady in leading the Bronchos and each has performed at high levels this season.

Young finished her first 6k in 25:55 at Oklahoma State earlier this season. She finished in 25:04 at the MIAA Championships last month in Missouri.

Buckhaults finished her first 6k of the year in 27:35 at OSU. She shaved more than two minutes off that time by the next one, finishing in 25:18 at the MIAA Championships.

Marroquin had a similar progression this year. She finished in 27:20 at Oklahoma State and took almost 90 seconds off her time with a 25:58 at the MIAA Championships.

Haack has only raced once this season and that was the 6k at Oklahoma State in September. The sophomore finished in 27:01. Haack has run this course three times in her career, with two 6ks in Joplin. Her career best is 25:17 at the Central Region Championships last year.

The top three teams to finish at regionals advance to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, also hosted by Missouri Southern State in Joplin on Nov. 18.
