UCO In Seventh After Two Rounds In Tulsa

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma women's golf team is in seventh place after two trips around The Club at Forest Ridge Monday as the Bronchos competed in Rogers State's Tulsa Cup.

Central Oklahoma posted a 36-hole score of 618 (316-302). Central Missouri leads the 19-team field after posting a 581 (283-298). Southwestern Oklahoma State (600), Rogers State (607), and Arkansas Tech (614) are second, third and fourth respectively. Oklahoma Baptist and Northeastern State are tied for fifth after both schools posted a team score of 616.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak led the Bronchos through the first day. The senior from Thailand shot back-to-back rounds of 4-over-par, carding a 76-76 for 152. That mark is good for 16th place individually.
 
Khunarak started on the par-3 fourth Monday morning. She shot a 2-over-par on both the front nine and the back nine and sank three birdie putts and nine par putts. She played the front nine even-par in the second round before a 4-over on the back nine. She had four birdies and eight pars her second time around the track.
 
Mika Ramos is one shot back. The senior from Tulsa started the day on the par-4 fifth. She hit a snag out of the gate and spent the rest of the day working her way back. Ramos had three birdies in the first round and shot a 7-over 79. She had a solid second round, sinking three more birdie putts and 10 par putts, all on an 11-hole stretch from No. 3 to No. 13. Ramos's 153 puts her tied for 20th in the individual standings.
 
Estela Castillo, starting on No. 6, played the first round 9-over par. She sank one birdie, on the par-5 ninth, and she sank 11 par putts. In the second round, the freshman from Spain had a big bounce back. She had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 & 9, and two more on the back nine to finish with a 3-over-par 75. Castillo's 156 has her tied for 32nd individually.
 
Emma Shelley is two back of Castillo after firing rounds of 81 and 77. The senior from Bartlesville also shot a 9-over 81 in the first round with two birdies, back-to-back on Nos. 17 & 18. In the second round, Shelley fired a 5-over 77 and again birdied the last two holes on the course. Shelley hit 18 pars in 36 holes, including 11 in the second round.
 
Drew Faires is also competing for the Bronchos this week at The Tulsa Cup. The Oklahoma City native shot an 8-over 80 in the first round with three birdies and nine pars. She shaved one stroke off her game in the second round, firing a 7-over 79 to finish 15-over on the day. Her 159 is tied for 47th individually.
 
A third and final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning with a shotgun start. Teams will begin play at 8:30 a.m. with the Bronchos starting on holes 4-7 again.
