Bronchos Third and Fourth In SWOSU Tourney

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Oct. 2) – Both Central Oklahoma teams placed themselves among the leaders after first-day play in the Perkins Intercollegiate Monday at the Prairie West Golf Club.

UCO's starting unit is in third place with a seven-under-par 561 total after rounds of 278-283 at the 6,880-yard, par-71 layout and the second-team squad is fourth, two shots behind at 563 (281-282). Missouri S&T leads the 10-team tourney at 552, four strokes ahead of host Southwestern Oklahoma.

Final-round play begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

"Both teams played well today, which was good to see," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "We had a few loose shots, but overall our guys did a great job and made a lot of birdies."

Bennett Baldwin (70-69) and Dylan Henderson (67-72) led the No. 1 team and are tied for sixth in the individual standings at three-under 139. Baylor Bostick (70-71=141) is tied for 12th, Evan Griffith (71-71=142) is tied for 16th and Nick Canales (72-72=144) is tied for 22nd.

Ross Taylor had the best day of all 10 Bronchos, ending the day second in the standings at five-under 137 following stellar rounds of 68-69 in pacing the second-team squad. He's five shots behind leader Max Bialy of SWOSU.

Kyle Hickey (73-67=140) is tied for 10th and Caleb Kimmel (70-72=142) is tied for 16th, while Carson Blaser shot 72-74 and Riley Harris 71-76.

Taylor made only one bogey in 36 holes in putting himself near the individual lead. He had three birdies and 15 pars in his three-under morning round, then opened the second round with four straight pars.

The senior followed with back-to-back birdies to drop to two-under for the round, then ripped off eight straight pars before making his only bogey of the day. Taylor rebounded with a pair of pars before birdieing his final hole for an afternoon 68.

Baldwin was two-under at the turn in the morning, then played the back nine one-over in his opening 70. The junior was one-over after nine holes in the afternoon before making three straight birdies to start the back en route to rallying for his 69.

Henderson bogeyed his first hole of the day, but came back with two birdies and an eagle to make the turn at three-under 33. He made two birdies and a bogey on the closing nine for a 34 for his opening-round 67.

The senior was two-over after 10 holes in the afternoon, then played his final eight holes one-under to come back with the 72.
