Saturday marks the first track meet of the season for the Bronchos and the first track meet under the direction of new head coach Gus Schmader.

"We're excited to get started and see where we stand," Schmader said. "We weren't able to get started in December but we have been working hard and are excited to get started. Saturday will be a good measurement of where we are at."

Central Oklahoma is sending 13 student-athletes to OU for Saturday's meet. The Bronchos are competing in eight events.

Veterans Dahsauni Lyday and Tatum Robertson will both compete in the weight throw and shot put events, while veteran Luz Lugo-Ponce will compete in the pole vault. Ty Delaney, returning after a year off, is scheduled to compete in the 60-meter dash and the 200.

The other nine competitors for the Bronchos will be making their debuts.

Jakobi Bartling is scheduled to compete in the high jump and is the only jumper on the docket for UCO this weekend. Talyn Been, Jolie Oliver, and Mattison Thetford are all joining Lugo-Ponce in the pole vault.

The UCO distance crew of Seydi Blount, Noel Buckhaults, Korie Kizarr, and Gracie Sanders are all scheduled to compete in the 1-mile race and the 3,000-meter run.

Dekayla Gaines rounds out the crew and will join Delaney in both the 60 meters and the 200.

Saturday marks the first of four straight weekends of meets for the Bronchos. UCO is scheduled to compete in the Herm Wilson Invitational at Wichita State, the Washburn Open, and the Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State. The 2023 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship is scheduled for the last weekend in February.
