Bronchos Finish Sixth In Minnesota

WINONA, Minn. (Sept. 7) – A pair top-15 individual finishes led Central Oklahoma to a sixth-place showing in the Regional Preview that wrapped up Wednesday.

Caleb Kimmel and Ross Taylor tied for 13th in the medalist race to pace the Bronchos, who shot a final-round 302 in finishing two trips around the 6,804 yard, par-71 The Bridges Golf Course with a 601 total.

Host Winona State won the 14-team tournament at 578, followed by Washburn (590), Wayne State (591) and Minnesota State-Mankato (595).

Taylor fired a two-over-par 73 to lead UCO in final-round play and Bennett Baldwin had a 75. Kimmel and Evan Griffith both closed with 77s, while Hogan Ordal had a 79 and Riley Harris a 74 competing as an individual.

"We didn't play very well today, but it was still a good tournament for us" head coach Derrick Thompson said. "Our guys learned a lot and this will help us moving forward."

Kimmel got off to a rough start and was eight-over after 10 holes before rallying down the stretch. The junior was two-under on the last eight holes in coming in with the 77 that gave him a 149 total.

Taylor made nine straight pars during one stretch in his two-over round in finishing with a 149 total to tie Kimmel for 13th.

The Bronchos return to action Sept. 19-20 at the NSU Men's Classic in Tahlequah.
