Baldwin, Kimmel Pace UCO

AFTON, Okla. (Sept. 26) – Bennett Baldwin and Caleb Kimmel were among the top-10 individuals in leading Central Oklahoma to a fourth-place showing after first-day play in the Missouri Southern Fall Classic Monday.

The Bronchos opened with a 301 in the morning round before trimming 12 shots off that in an afternoon 289 to finish two trips around the 6,876-yard, par-72 Shangri-La Country Club with a 590 total. Missouri-St. Louis leads the 19-team tourney at 582, followed by Oklahoma Christian (585), St. Mary's (588) and UCO.

Final-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Baldwin (74-71) and Kimmel (71-74) were tied for ninth in the individual race at 145. The Bronchos also got rounds of 77-72 from Carson Blaser, 79-72 from Evan Griffith and 83-79 from Ross Taylor, while Hogan Ordal shot 78-79 competing as an individual medalist.

"I was happy with the way the guys bounced back in the afternoon after getting off to a tough start," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "We played pretty well and put ourselves in a good position. Now we need to come out tomorrow and keep it going."

Bennett had six bogeys and four birdies in an up-and-down 74 in the morning, then opened the second round with a bogey. The sophomore rebounded with three birdies in a nine-hole stretch to get to two-under before giving one shot back down the stretch.

Kimmel had three birdies in starting the day with a one-under 71. The junior got off to a double bogey-bogey start in the afternoon before playing the final 16 holes at one-under in coming in with the 74.
