Central Oklahoma Back in Win Column

Adria Ramirez's Brace Leads Bronchos To Win At Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. – No. 12 Central Oklahoma got back in the win column Sunday with a 3-1 victory at Missouri Southern in an MIAA matchup.

UCO is now 7-1-2 on the season and the Bronchos have a 2-1-0 record in league play.

"It was good to see the team respond in a positive way after losing a close on Friday," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "They put that one behind them and came out focused and we had a good game."

Central Oklahoma lost 1-0 at No. 4 Central Missouri on Friday night. The Bronchos wasted no time getting on the scoreboard on Sunday.

Adria Ramirez scored the game's first goal in just the fifth minute of play. Kassidy Collins sent a cross in that the MSSU goalkeeper deflected. Ramirez was right in front of the goal and corralled the loose ball and first a shot.

It was the first goal of the season for Ramirez, a sophomore from Moore.

UCO got one more in the first half. This time it came from a set piece. Emily Tincher took a corner kick in the 39th minute and Monika McGee played it perfectly at the front post, heading in the goal to give Central a 2-0 lead.

Ramirez was at it again in the second half. Tincher sent in another corner kick and after MSSU tried to punch it out, Ramirez found herself with space straight in front of the goal. This time she flicked a high floater right over the goalkeeper's head to give UCO a 3-0 lead.

Missouri Southern got one back with 20 minutes left to play, but UCO did more than enough to seal the win.

Caroline Faulkner played the first 62 minutes in goal for the Bronchos and made four saves. Olivia Vigil entered the match late and allowed the lone goal.

Central Oklahoma outshot MSSU 18-8 overall and held a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Bronchos also managed an 8-2 advantage on corners.

UCO is back home next week. The Bronchos are scheduled to play Nebraska Kearney Friday at 7 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field and will also host Fort Hays State next Sunday at 1 p.m.
