Bronchos Down Bison In Final Seconds

Central Oklahoma Scores Game-Winning Goal In 90th Minute To Win 2-1 At Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Sophia Gaskins scored in the 90th minute – with just two seconds remaining in the game – to give Central Oklahoma a 2-1 win at Oklahoma Baptist on Friday night.
 
The sophomore defender stood tall in the box as the final seconds were being counted down in the stadium. Greta Likens, another sophomore, sent in a corner with speed and precision. Gaskins found the ball right in front of the goal and headed it in the top corner out of the reach of the OBU goalkeeper.
 
"We like to make things interesting," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "This game was similar to our first two that we had the chances to win and for a little bit it seemed like we were going to have to settle for the draw. But credit to both Greta and Sophia on that play. That was a great finish.
 
"It's good to finally get in the win column and get some confidence," Muhamedagic continued. "We needed it. Hopefully we can build on that this weekend."
 
Central Oklahoma (1-2) moves on this weekend to continue a short road trip at Midwestern State on Sunday in Wichita Falls, Texas.
 
In the first two games of the season, UCO outshot its opponents 17-8 and 14-11. The Bronchos just weren't able to convert their chances and dropped both games 2-1 and 2-0.
 
Friday in Shawnee, it was more control by Central. UCO outshot OBU 15-8 and had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
 
It was the host Bison that went ahead 1-0 with a goal in the third minute of the game. Central quickly answered, with veteran midfielder Emma Nicholas scoring in the eighth minute to tie it, 1-1.
 
And for the next 82 minutes it stayed that way. Nicholas put another shot on goal, Kaitlyn Cotton put two on target, and Jane Lockhart, Sophia Sallusti, and Ariana Kingsberry all put one shot on goal each. Gaskins game-winner was the first shot of the match for her.
 
Gaskins and Cotton were the only two field players to play all 90 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Stella Soderbom played all 90 in goal and made two saves. It was the first appearance of her career and she overcame a goal in the third minute to earn her first career win.
 
Midwestern State is off to a 3-0 start this season. The Mustangs beat Oklahoma Baptist 5-0, Ouachita Baptist 2-0, and Colorado Mesa 2-0 for a strong start to the 2026 season.
 
Central Oklahoma will be back home next week for a Wednesday night matchup with Southern Nazarene at Tom Thompson Field in Edmond.
