UCO Opens The Season In Texas

DENTON, Texas – Central Oklahoma is ready to open its 2022-23 season Monday with the Dallas Baptist Classic at the Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.

The 54-hole event will begin Monday with the first two rounds, and wrap up on Tuesday with the third round.

"We're starting a little later than normal so we're anxious to get out there and play," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "We've had a lot of time to practice in and around Edmond but we're looking forward to getting out there and competing against a quality field."

Central Oklahoma returns four from last year's squad that won two tournaments and finished in the Top Five in 9 of 11 events. The Bronchos also added two newcomers out of junior college that figure to be key players this season.

Madison O'Dell leads the team as the veteran senior. The Owasso, Oklahoma native is a fifth-year senior that had two sophomore seasons due to the pandemic. She enters the 2022-23 season with 39 career tournaments played. O'Dell has a career 78.7 scoring average.

Emma Shelley, a fourth-year junior, had a similar re-do earlier in her career. She had two freshman seasons due to the pandemic. Shelley enters this season with 23 career tournaments played and a 77.2 career scoring average. She has two career victories, once each in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Mika Ramos is also a junior but a true third-year player. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native played in four tournaments as a freshman in 2020-21 and played in all 11 tourneys last season. She has a 79.6 career scoring average.

Nanya Hinsui and Jirasuda Khunarak are two newcomers to this year's roster. The duo are both from Thailand and both attended Ranger College in Texas for the last two seasons. Hinsui and Khunarak led Ranger to an 11th-place finish at the National Junior College Championships last season.

Central Oklahoma has five Fall tournaments on its schedule beginning with Monday's event in Texas. The Bronchos will take on the Lady Tiger Classic at Fort Hays State in an MIAA designated event Sept. 26-27 before hosting the Grace Shin Invitational at the Golf Club of Edmond Oct. 3-4.

UCO is also scheduled to compete in the National Preview in Eureka, Missouri Oct. 10-11 and The Tulsa Cup in Broken Arrow Oct. 24-25.
